Disclaimer: Things are going to get deep her at The Resolution today. If reading about sexual abuse bothers you, I’m sorry, but I think it needs to be talked about.
A few years ago, I was talking
with a group of about 5 friends of mine. Somehow, the topic of sexual abuse
came up and we found out that every single one of us was a victim of it when we
were children.
Since then, I’ve learned of quite
a few more women and men who have been victims of this awful crime, whether
they were children, teens, or adults. It astounds me that so many people have
had to suffer through this pain and confusion at some point in their lives. It
devastates me to know that there are so many predators or other victims of
abuse that perpetuate it out there. It makes me afraid for the children I will
eventually have.
More than anything, I want to
speak out and let all of you who may be currently struggling, or who have
struggled in the past with this pain that you are not alone. Just because
someone took advantage of you and hurt you, doesn’t mean you have to let it
define you. It was not your fault. It’s not your guilt to carry. You are more
than what has been done to you. You are not damaged goods. You are capable of
being loved.
We can be so much more than
victims of abuse. It’s important to deal with our issues (I cannot recommend
therapy enough), but once we have processed our emotions, let’s move on. Let’s live
our lives to the fullest. Let’s love and be loved. Let’s protect our children
from that harm. Don’t be afraid to comfort others who may be going through the
same pain.
It’s possible to overcome our
horrible experiences; all we have to do is try, and accept all of the help that
is out there. This website is a really good place to start.

Much needed post. Thank you. You are wonderful and strong and a great example. I am grateful beyond words I have not had to experience this trial, but all of the other women in my immediate family have, so my life has been touched by the effects. I love seeing the strength in conquering. Well said!
