Hi friends! As you could have probably guessed from my sporadic posting lately, I'm kind of inundated with a million and half things, so I figured this would be the perfect time for Karl to talk about his (not so) little garden. I say Karl's garden because I kill everything I touch and I don't want to jinx our lovely zucchini, squash, and tomato plants by calling them part mine. Haha. Thanks for your patience and love! xoxo
This spring, right after mothers day, Kristie and I (really just me) decided to plant a garden. This was my first shot at growing anything and it was quite a fun experience. Kristie had gone away for a week to visit her parents, and I was quite bored. I went down to Home Depot and bought up a bunch of scrap pieces of wood and a few bags of dirt and made these glorious planter boxes. I have to admit that I didn't put a huge amount of effort into properly making the boxes so as a result, as the plants have grown, the planter boxes have all kind of fallen apart, but hey, the plants are still growing like crazy. After I made the boxes, I got some of those little peetmoss planting flats and a bunch of seeds and filled them all up with dirt and stuck a bunch of seeds in them I watched for a few hours, and when nothing had grown, i decided to go and get a bunch of plants that were already started and plant them in my boxes.
It has been a few months now and our plants have gone crazy. About three weeks after I planted the garden, the radishes were full sized and I got to pick them. It was very exciting. Unfortunately I left them out in our super humid house for a day and they shriveled up and got soft. I'm not quite sure why that happened, but I was lucky enough to eat one. Since then we have had probably a dozen squash and even more zucchini. We have had so much zucchini that we are having it with almost every meal we have. Instead of chicken cutlets, zucchini cutlets. Fried zucchini with grilled cheese sandwiches and when we cook on the grill we have grilled zucchini and hot dogs.
It has been lots of fun to plant things and watch them grow! I recommend it to anyone! Good luck if you every plant your own garden.
Love,
Karl
