New York, New York

Hello friends! I'm so excited to be blogging again. This whole time I've been as stressed as a new mom who leaves her baby with a sitter for the first time. I've been calling Karl to check in, trying to peek on my dad's iPhone, and even occasionally hopping on the hotel computer. Needless to say I was a little more than stressed when "The Great Blogger Crash of 2011" happened. Sorry if you commented and it got deleted. Karl had to re-post a bit. Anyways, on to my trip! It has been so much fun! I've done a lot, so I'm just going to dive right in to New York City in this post.

This was my first time visiting the city and on first appearances, it was really just a bigger, trashier, version of Boston. That opinion changed pretty quick. It was 70-75 and sunny the whole time. People were super friendly, and we never ran out places we wanted to see. Here are some things we did:

-Walked. A lot. Our hotel was pretty centrally located (Madison Square Garden), but we did a lot of walking to popular tourist destinations.
-We took a double decker bus tour that lets you get off at stops. It was so much fun! I enjoyed nerding out and acting like a tourist!

 On this tour we saw:
-Ground Zero
It was very sobering
-The Empire State Building
 -30 Rock
-Gorgeous tulips in the park
My favorites
-The Brooklyn Bridge (which we walked)

-5th Ave
-Chinatown
 -Little Italy
It says "Welcome to historic Little Italy."
-Tiffany's
-Times Square
-People telling us Judgment Day was coming May 21st and we were going to hell.
Are you prepared?
I'm sure there's a lot more that I can't think of
-We ate lots of delicious food. My favorite was the giant pizza slices from Famous Amadeus.
Such good pizza
-We saw Catch Me If You Can. It was amazing. Like really amazing. And I don't really love musicals, so that's saying a lot.
Who knew Tripp Vanderbilt was so talented?

-After the show, the real Frank Abagnale Jr. was there and did a Q&A. Out of all the questions to ask, my dad asks, "Are you a Yankees fan or a Red Sox fan?" For the record, it's Yankees. My dad was not pleased.
-We tried hailing a cab for about a half hour at midnight. It took a lot of effort.

-I saw a pop up John Frieda hair tent where they would style your hair for free. I participated and walked away lookin sexay.
Before

After
-We ate lunch in Little Italy at a place called Napoli's. It was so amazing.
Tid bit about me: Every time I go to a new Italian restaurant, I have to try the ChikParm. This was delicious.
-Of course we hit up Canal St. in Chinatown. We followed a little Asian lady to a shop where there were a bunch of ghetto looking purses. She looked around, then pushed a button that opened a door. We went through a dark hallway to a very tiny, very hot room full of knock off purses. In traditional Mom fashion, she took forever to decide what she wanted. The Asian lady got a text that the police were coming. My mom took a purse, threw some money at her (as the little Asian lady was yelling, "Hurry! Hurry!"), then we had to wait in the dark hallway til the police were gone. Exciting! I ended up buying a Michael Kors and a Dolce and Gabbana. Lovely.
Me and my new baby
-We hopped a train from Penn Station back to Providence. I have a deep and true love for trains. I never want to fly again. Amtrak all the way.

So how was New York overall? It was awesome. Bring your walking shoes and a lot of spending money and be prepared for the time of your life. The only thing that would have made it better was if Karl was there.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I didn't get sick once on my flights. I was so incredibly happy! One high five for me and one for the pilots. They were awesome.

Well, I'm having to post from the garage at my parent's house (they're renovating the floors with heated tile), and I'm getting pretty tired. I'm going to hang out with my parents and enjoy my last two days. Thanks for staying with me!

P.S. Sorry about the picture quality. What with there being so many and me being so tired and my butt hurting as I'm sitting on a metal folding chair, I did not bother resizing or editing. I hope you can forgive me.

I'm glad the flying parts went well.
New York looks so incredible. Your new purse is drool-worthy. Lucky girl!
Cheers.

For a city so packed with people, New York seems to still have its appeal. It definitely remains on my list of places to visit in my lifetime.
