Kittens Inspired By Kittens

I absolutely love this. I can't help but laugh hysterically every time.

I dare you not to laugh.

If you saw a heat wave, would you wave back?

I live in Utah. It's officially summer. I really hate wearing clothes in times like these...

You Have to Like it Better Than Being Loved

The real writer is one
who really writes. Talent
is an invention like phlogiston
after the fact of fire.
Work is its own cure. You have to
like it better than being loved.

They other night I happened upon the Utah Arts Festival and as I entered through the ominous gates at Library Square, I saw a sight that intrigued me immediately. What I saw was the picture above. Basically, the people tending the booth provided a sentence starter like "I would have been a better child if..." or "As the sun was setting..." They would give you a rather large post-it to write on as they timed you for 60 seconds. I wanted to try this ridiculously bad, but my fear held me back. I decided I would just try it on the way out, but as I was leaving, the booth had closed. Ultimately, my point is that fear rules our lives. I let it hold me back and I am still regretting it. I know I'm not the best writer in the world, but who would know it was me who wrote it, or more importantly, who would care? I missed out on that opportunity and I realy urge anyone who comes across something new, challenging, and potentially embarassing to try it. Leave your fears with the naysayers and do what you desire.

"And the Mome Raths Outgrabe"

I just got wind that Tim Burton is doing a rendition of "Alice in Wonderland," which beyond excites me. I love Tim Burton. Everything he does is completely visionary, even despite its creepiness and morbid elements. No one can deny that he is extremely talented. After seeing the few pictures that have been released for the film, I cannot wait to see it. Everything in the film is meticulously done and keeps the Burton signature elements, including roles played by Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. I'll be on my mission when it's released (March 2010), but I'll just have to see it when I get home. :)

Ice Cream Machine

A vintage ice cream truckImage via Wikipedia

Today after geting home from the gym, I was sitting on my front porch reading when all of a sudden I heard tinkling music. I looked up and there was an ice cream truck driving down my street. Without even thinking, I got ridiculously excited, which then lead me to have a flashback to Mason Field Day Camp in 5th grade. We all awaited the "Palagi" man anxiously with all the change we could scrounge up and beg off our parents. I got a huge craving for a watermelon slushie and was half tempted to book it inside to grab my change. Haha. I know it's ridiculous, but I just love ice cream trucks. They bring back the nostalgia of childhood and help me to remember to embrace my inner child. I'm only 20 years old, but whether you're 20 or 90, I think the sound of an ice cream truck brings the same old feelings and the longing for the naivete of our youth.

So, I Know I Already Blogged Today...

But I just had to post this on here. After answering a series of questions about myself, this is the mosaic that resulted. Gotta love flickr.

An Inspiring Thought For the Uninspired World

"I believe laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing; kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles." -Audrey Hepburn

Such a classy female.

Mission Possible!

I'm going on a mission this year! Yes, I know, I didn't think it was financially possible based on what all the financial advisors at SLCC told me, but it's happening! I can start filling my papers out in late October. This is the best day I've had in an otherwise bleak month. :)

If Only My Words Were As Eloquent...

Andrew McMahon, my hero. He is just such a perfect writer and poet. He understands what is pleasing to the ear and soothing to the soul. After reading his most recent blog "Slingshot" I realize how amateur I am, and how I just completely pale in comparison.

Nothing and Everything on the Same Page

So in lieu of Larissa's latest blog appropriately titled "Wordle," I had to go create my own based on all of my blogs. I ended up being pleasantly surprised and actually really enjoying the final result.

I have never been one to plagiarize ;):

You're the Echoes of My Everything

History comes in many forms. It can be read in books, told in stories, or preserved in memories. Most importantly however, is that history is like beauty; it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. I have come to the realization that my history can best be told through music. My life is an ever evolving playlist that contains hundreds of songs that helped shape me into the person I am. Zooey Deschanel most recently has updated my playlist with her skillful harmonizing, classic pipes, and seriously relatable lyrics. I swear, "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" was written about me, for me. Adam Lazzara and the guys from Taking Back Sunday also recently contributed to my playlist with "Capital M-E." Ironic, I know, that the song titled "Capital M-E" seems like it really is about M-E. ;) I have tried, unsuccessfully, to create a 20 song playlist that sums up the experiences and emotions in my life. It's impossible. Don't ever even try to do it, you'll regret it, I promise. Songs somehow become your babies. I found myself feeling bad for my babies that I just couldn't find a spot for on my mix. I would also like to specify that I do not pick songs for my playlist based on lyrics alone. "Casimir Pulaski Day" by Sufjan Stevens contains lyrics that don't necessarily relate to my life, but the overall feel of the song, and the carefully placed instrumentals and harmonies create a song that is able to capture magic in me. I don't know what it is, but the melancholy vibe of the song fits perfectly in my heart. It's like it was just waiting for me to hear that one song, and it could be wonderfully melancholy and complacent.

I would also like to touch upon music coincidences. Today I went into a Wendy's to pick up food for my sister and her kids and the very moment I entered, "Buildings and Mountains" by the Republic Tigers began to play. At work a couple of months ago "Hold Me Down," my favorite Motion City Soundtrack song came on the satellite radio. I also for an entire summer, almost always caught the clock at 11:11 (Konstantine-Something Corporate). There have been various coincidences like this in my life, or at least one can chalk it up to coincidence, but I choose not to believe that. I believe these songs and experiences were sent to me. Call me crazy if you will, but I don't think I am. I think I hear these songs just so I know I'm not alone. I feel like it's Heavenly Father saying "You know what, Kristie, I know you. I know you so well in fact, here's a little melodic present just so you know I'm aware of you, and I love you." This is what I choose to believe anyways. If you've ever seen I Heart Huckabees, you know that coincidences have bigger meaning than we think. It warms my heart to hear a relatively unknown band being played, and I know it's just for me. I am the music I listen to, and the music I listen to is me.

I just absolutely love it.
